    Export & Sharing

    9 min read

    SVG, PNG and native files, Draw.io and Visio export, import, share links, embedding in Notion, Confluence and Obsidian, and Handoff Packs.

    Archgram exports to images and native files, imports files from other tools, and shares diagrams as read-only links you can embed in documentation.

    Export Formats

    Everything lives in the toolbar's Export menu:

    SVG Export

    SVG is the recommended default: lossless, crisp at any size, and it embeds cleanly in any Markdown renderer. Excalidraw and graph-based diagrams are drawn to SVG by Archgram itself, so SVG export works in every format.

    PNG Export

    PNG is exported at 2× pixel density, which suits slides and retina screens. For print-size posters, export SVG and rasterise it at the size you need.

    Import

    Import file… accepts .mmd, .mermaid, .d2, .excalidraw, .drawio, .dio, .puml, .plantumland .vsdx. The format is detected from the content and the file opens in the matching editor.

    Draw.io Export

    Produces a .drawio file that opens in diagrams.net and the Confluence Draw.io plugin. Nested groups, labels, shapes and colours are preserved; the export reports anything that was simplified. Sequence, class and ER diagrams arrive as boxes with their members as text.

    Save the diagram, then click Share and make it public. The recipient gets a read-only page at /share/<token> that renders the diagram in its own format — no sign-in needed.

    • Turn the link off at any time from the same dialog; the old URL stops working
    • The Embed tab gives an iframe snippet and platform-specific steps

    Embedding in Docs

    Every public diagram also has an embed URL at /embed/<token>: a minimal, chrome-free page designed for an iframe, with a small badge linking back to the full view. Open Share, make the diagram public, and switch to the Embed tab to copy the URL or iframe code.

    Dark mode

    Append ?theme=dark to the embed URL to render Mermaid diagrams with the dark theme:

    https://archgram.io/embed/your-token?theme=dark

    Notion

    1. Make the diagram public and copy the Embed URL from the Embed tab.
    2. In your Notion page, type /embed and press Enter.
    3. Paste the embed URL and press Enter.

    Notion shows the current version of the diagram each time the page is opened.

    Confluence

    1. Open a Confluence page in edit mode.
    2. Insert the HTML macro (type / and search HTML).
    3. Paste the iframe code from the Embed tab into the macro:
      <iframe
        src="https://archgram.io/embed/your-token"
        width="100%"
        height="400"
        style="border:none;border-radius:8px"
        title="Architecture diagram">
      </iframe>
    4. Save and publish the page.

    The HTML macro must be enabled by a Confluence administrator. It is available by default in Cloud; Data Center and Server may need an admin to allow it.

    Obsidian

    1. Open a note in Source / Editing view.
    2. Paste the iframe tag anywhere in the note:
      <iframe
        src="https://archgram.io/embed/your-token"
        width="100%"
        height="400"
        style="border:none;border-radius:8px">
      </iframe>
    3. Switch to Reading view to see the diagram.

    If the frame is blocked, enable Allow iframes under Settings → Editor.

    GitHub README

    GitHub Markdown does not render iframes. Export an SVG, commit it to the repository and reference it as an image:

    ![System Architecture](./docs/architecture.svg)

    Alternatively, keep the diagram source in the repository with Git Sync; GitHub renders Mermaid code blocks in Markdown natively.

    Handoff Pack

    With Archgram Flow enabled (Pro), an initiative's Handoff Pack tab packages everything a receiving team needs into one document. Download it as Markdownor JSON, or copy the Markdown to the clipboard. It contains:

    • The initiative overview: description, KPIs and constraints
    • Every Architecture Decision Record, with context, decision, alternatives and consequences
    • MVP slices with scenarios and acceptance criteria
    • Workstreams, milestones with confidence and checklists, and dependencies (including blocked items and circular dependencies)
    • The RAID log grouped by type, with severity, status and mitigation
